Company Description

What’s in a name? For Runaway Meadow Farm it means history, health, legacy, natural living, nourishment, giving back, home, love, and family.

This farm is the culmination of dreams and determination to provide the best possible quality food for our families. Our passion is deep rooted, intrinsic in nature, and yes – it’s personal.

The dream began when our families started experiencing food allergies and sensitivities in ourselves and our children. When mainstream medicine didn’t help, looking outside the box became the new norm.

Upon changing some dietary items back to the more natural ways of our ancestors and receiving positive results, we collectively decided that a vast overhaul was needed.

With meat being our main source of protein, it became pertinent to find sources of organic, grass-fed beef, pork, and chicken. It wasn’t terribly difficult to find them, but finding farms with stock was. And the seed to start our own farm was planted. We hung on for the ride!

Recognizing everyone’s strengths and weaknesses, we all took charge of different processes along the way. However
our main objective and promise is to raise any animal residing at our farm with love and respect using only organic practices.

Much research was done to decide what type of cattle to raise. Then more research to decide the best layout for the barn, stock yard, storage, grazing patterns, etc. And finally, going to view various cattle breeds and determining which to bring home.

Our “operation” started October 2015 with 2 heifers and a previously erected small lean too meant for horses, but soon expanded. Not shy of challenging work, the guys dove right in with building, roofing, fencing, clearing walk ways, and making our dream a reality.

The year of 2016 and start of 2017 have provided us growth both operationally and personally. We now have a growing herd of cattle, chickens for eggs, and some goats and ducks for entertainment. It’s a blessing to see how each animal contributes to the eco-system of the farm and allows us to maintain natural practices.

You may ask, what defines natural practices? And we’re glad you want to know! Our cattle receive nourishment via daily rotational grazing until weather doesn’t allow. In the colder months, they feed off organic hay bales from our own fields and maintain outside exposure in our open style barn. They always have access to kelp, minerals, and fresh water. Best of all, they have interaction from at least one of us every single day. We joke that we have 30 plus children and in many ways, it’s true.

When nature is in balance, synthetics are not needed. It all starts with healthy soil. There is more life in a teaspoon of soil than people on earth. Using this as a starting point means our pastures are pesticide and herbicide free. We do not believe in immunizing, administering antibiotics, or using any other type of conventional medicine. Our priority is raising healthy, well-cared for animals with minimal intervention, nourishing nature as God intended.

At Runaway Meadow Farm, we believe in beyond organic standards. Our chosen values aren’t just so we fit in with mainstream industry. They’re because we believe in them and want to learn and improve every day.

We invite you to visit the farm and meet us yourself! We’d be delighted to show you around, meet and greet with the animals, and answer any questions you have. It’s often a fun family trip! In the meantime, please browse the numerous pictures in our Facebook feed to get a feel for our home away from home.

From everyone at Runaway Meadow Farm “Thank You” for taking interest in our passion, and we look forward to working with you!
