Company Description
Cooper Mountain’s unique soils are the result of a cataclysmic volcanic event in Eastern Oregon some 50 million years ago. These soils, along with climactic conditions influenced by our proximity to both the Columbia Gorge and the Chehalem Mountains, help us to produce wines with a specific sense of place.
Cooper Mountain Vineyards got its start in 1978 when Dr. Robert Gross and his wife, Corrine, planted the first Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. The two of them tended the vines and carefully nurtured them as they established in the unique soils of Cooper Mountain. The vines matured gracefully to produce authentic Oregon Pinots. At first, the fruit was sold to other wineries and crafted into wine by some of Oregon’s finest winemakers. In 1987, the winery opened to offer its first vintage to the public. We now farm more than 160 acres, grow five varietals and are committed to sustainability: organic and biodynamic farming and winemaking and dry farming.
